Even when you are an A-list actor, sometimes there is a lot of “down time” between projects.
Those are good times to develop a side hustle, or other business lines.
So some actors dabble in liquor businesses, or clothing endorsements, or do voice overs for car commercials.
Not Spiderman actor Tobey Maguire.
He dabbled in poker.
And he wasn’t playing in some casino at the edge of the city.
Tobey was involved in an LA poker ring that was revealed only after one of the players was a sore loser.
This ring was invitation only, where entrepreneurs, actors, and professional players would show up at hotel rooms or homes for secretive games.
Other players in this ring you may have heard of — Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon.
Anyway, these guys would be invited to these games. Some would show up. And apparently Tobey showed up a lot, and went home with fist fulls of money.
One guy (who later went bankrupt) was a bad poker player and a sore loser.
He claimed that Tobey Maguire won over $310,000 from him in poker!
And further, a pro poker player estimated that Maguire has won more than $10 million in games around Hollywood!
You can tell that Maguire is a pretty smart guy, and he didn’t use his acting skills for action flicks only.
Nope — apparently those acting skills can also come in handy when bluffing or hiding a good hand.
And he’s certainly good at math, because the best players understand the odds of a Texas Hold ‘Em hand instinctively.
My point here isn’t that I’m going into the poker business (although it’s tempting, ha). [note: if you ever play me, I have a particular “tell” when I have a good hand]
The lesson here from Spiderman is to find out what you are good at, what you enjoy, and hopefully those two intersect somewhere you can be of service to others!
I really enjoy the lab business, especially when it’s geared towards explorers.
I get inspired by the mineral explorers around the world, and have tailored my business to help them out any way I can.
And today, I launch my business line for providing testing of rare earth metals.
Right now, there are lots of explorers out finding rare earth metals. These rare earths are key ingredients in all the electronic technology we have today.
And there are very few rare earth metal mines in the United States at this time, but many are being developed. And developed around the world.
So, today I declare that I’m playing the rare earth metal testing game, and want to help you win.
If you need a testing package put together, to determine whether or not you have rare earths in economic concentrations, give me a call.
