In the microproppant supply chain, US Silica has jumped into the fight with their products, called “Micro Stim” and “Micro Stim Plus.”
They tout that their micro stim product is in the 200 mesh (75 microns) size range, and their micro Stim Plus product is in the 325 mesh (44 microns) range.
Now, we know that Halliburton is currently offering the use of a microproppant in their MicroScout Service, which is a stimulation service that they say can do the following:
(1) Reduce entry friction during the stimulation operation
(2) Increase production by 10-15%
(3) Wells predicted to have 15-30% in estimated ultimate recovery.
Everyone that is working with microproppants explains that they increase the fracture network … as some of the shale fractures are only 50 microns in size, that means traditional proppant can’t fit into those openings.
By adding in some microproppants to the mix, they can keep these tiny fractures open, and producing. If you multiply that across a whole well, then you can really enhance the ultimate oil recovery.
