It may come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of movies.
I like the old classics, like Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” and Steve McQueen movies.
I like the “new” classics, like “Shawshank Redemption” and “Inception.”
I even enjoy a popcorn munching blockbuster every now and then, too like “Pacific Rim.”
Word on the street is that a whole mess of “high brow” movies are awaiting release between now and December 31st.
The strategy is to release as close to the Oscar nominations as possible, so as to be at the top of the committee’s mind when they put their ballots together.
Check out just some of these “thinking person’s” movies yet to be released this year:
* “The Monuments Men” World War II drama with Georgio Clooney
* “Grace of Monaco” starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly
* “The Wolf of Wall Street” by Martin Scorsese, starring Leo DiCaprio (I want to see that one fo’ sure)
These will have to compete with the other Oscar contenders, as well as the blockbuster movies that are there to just make money, not get golden statues.
Some of these high flying blockbusters yet to come are:
* “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”
* “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”
* “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” (sign me up for more fun with the Channel 4 news team)
So, Hollywood is packing a bunch into the remaining weeks of 2013.
